Proxmox Backup Server (PBS) is an enterprise-grade open-source backup solution designed for Proxmox VE environments. It supports incremental backups, client-side deduplication and end-to-end encryption, making it highly efficient for backing up virtual machines and containers. PBS integrates directly with the Proxmox VE web UI so you can manage backup jobs without switching tools.
With Shared PBS you get a dedicated datastore namespace on a shared PBS instance, ideal for smaller environments with 1 to 15 TB of backup data. Dedicated PBS gives you an entire PBS instance of your own with IP filtering, custom firewall rules and priority support — best suited for production environments that require isolation and full control over the backup service.
PBS uses fixed-size and variable-size chunking at the client side before data is transferred. Chunks already present on the backup server are skipped, which means only changed blocks are sent over the network. In practice this reduces storage usage by 40–70% compared to traditional full backups, especially for workloads with many similar VMs or slow-changing data.
Yes. PBS supports end-to-end encryption with AES-256-GCM. The encryption key is held by you and never stored on the backup server, which means even Adminor staff cannot read your backup data. We strongly recommend enabling encryption for all production datastores. Key management is your responsibility — store keys securely and separately from the backed-up data.
Yes. You add the Adminor PBS instance as a remote storage target in your Proxmox VE web UI or via pvesm add pbs on the CLI, using the provided hostname, port and TLS fingerprint. Once added, you configure backup jobs directly from PVE. We provide onboarding documentation and are available by phone or email if you need help during setup.
Storage above your included quota is billed per GB at the standard overage rate. We will notify you by email before you reach your limit so you can upgrade your plan or remove outdated snapshots. You can upgrade to a larger plan at any time with no downtime or data migration required — the change takes effect immediately.
Yes, exclusively. All backup data is stored in Adminor's data centers in Stockholm, Sweden. No data leaves Sweden. The service is GDPR and NIS2 compliant. A Data Processing Agreement (DPA) is available on request.
